As founder of one of the first companies devoted solely to creating and publishing vegan books for children, it is my goal to make vegan children’s book something bigger. While the number of vegan children’s books continues to grow, I believe that vegan books for children warrants a stronger focus.
With more and more families making the transition to veganism, there is more of a demand for vegan-themed children’s books than ever before. On the other hand, we still have a long road ahead in terms of spreading the vegan message. Not only will creating vegan children’s books fulfill a growing demand, but doing so will also help to bring veganism from the margins to the mainstream of our world.
Writing children’s books with a vegan message can be a tedious process–how does one teach kids about veganism without veering into some of the dark and scary corners of the subject? With Vegan Kids Press, I aim to craft stories that present a clear vegan message but also entertain. I aim to create books that not only convey vegan truths and foster animal advocacy, but also tell good stories, make kids giggle, and help kids to fall in love with reading. I hope that my books not only educate, but become favorites among vegan families.
My mission for Vegan Kids Press is to:
- Help fulfill a growing demand for vegan children’s books
- Provide pertinent coloring pages, craft ideas, recipes, discussion questions, and other child-friendly activities for parents and educators
- Partner with and donate to vegan nonprofits
- Connect with likeminded vegan families and creatives
My mission for each book is to:
- Meld vegan messages with fun, interactive stories that children will enjoy
- Provide an antithesis to the “happy farm” images that pervade mainstream children’s books, songs, and ads
- Help reassure vegan kids that they are not alone
- Inspire meaningful conversations between kids and parents
- Help kids to cultivate an attitude of kindness at an early age
